I'm currently writing a super detailed Ben 10 Timeline, here's what I got so far.
The Creation of Time
Time began when the Contemelia activated the Anihilaarg, causing The Big Bang.
After the creation of the Universe, the Contemelia sent out the Slimebiotes into space. The Slimebiotes are the ancestors of all lifeforms in the Prime Universe.
4.543 Billion Years Ago
c.4,542,998,050 BCE- The Earth was formed out of space debris.
The Incursean Homeworld entered a civil war that went on for eons.
Millions of Years Ago
The Galvan race was not always the dominant species of Galvan Prime, they were originally kept as Pets by larger species on their planet.
A meteor struck Galvan Prime which caused extreme climate changes that wiped out the Omnivoracious, which were known as the most cunning and determined predator in the known universe.
The Galvan began to rise above their owners thanks to their superior intelligence. They have been able to outwit every existing predator in the known galaxy.
The Galvan started constructing large cities across their world.
Azmuth was born on Galvan Prime.
Azmuth created an artificial planet known as Primus.
Azmuth fell in-love with another Galvan inventor named Zennith.
After seeing a planetary alignment, Azmuth was inspired to create a sword capable of cutting though reality.
Zennith left Azmuth after she saw his obsession with creating this weapon.
An Incursean warrior learned about Azmuth's sword and stole it. He intended to use the sword to reunite his people, the sword ended up causing the destruction of Incursean Homeworld instead.
Azmuth swore to hide away the sword and he dedicated himself to peaceful science. Azmuth began developing his greatest creation (the Omnitrix) soon afterward as an apology for what he had done.

An army of Knights battled the Lucubra to stop them from enslaving humanity.
Azmuth choose Sir George, the strongest of the knights, to wield his sword and use it to kill the Dagon.
George names the sword Ascalon.

In their battle, Tsul 'Kalu electrocuted Doc. This blinded Doc's right eye. In the end, Tsul 'Kalu came to terms with his defeat and gave his artifact The Hand of Tsul Kalu to Doc as a trophy.
After that day, Zak started using the hand to help him control his Kur powers.

Summer 2005 (Ben 10)
May 27, 2005 (And Then There Were 10)
Xylene was sent to transport the Omnitrix to Earth by Azmuth. It was intended to be given to Max Tennyson but things soon changed after Vilgax attacked Xylene's ship.
After Ben's class ends, he leaves school with his Grandpa Max and his cousin Gwen. They take the Rustbucket to Yosemite Park, California and begin their Summer Vacation road trip.
Professor Paradox and a Ben Tennyson from an alternate timeline enter Vilgax's ship to make sure that the timeline does not change.
Xylene fires a laser at Vilgax's ship which nearly killed him. Xylene is forced to send the Omnitrix in a pod to Earth to keep it away from Vilgax. However her aim was slightly off and so the Ben from the alternate timeline is forced to use Cannonbolt to change it's trajectory to the location of the Prime Universe's Ben Tennyson. Xylene crashed into a snowy area where she entered a hibernated state.
Ben walks into the Park and he see the Omnitrix's pod heading straight for him. The Pod was homing onto Max's DNA signature but it went to Ben instead because of his similar DNA. Professor Paradox and the alternate timeline Ben Tennyson watch as the Omnitrix jumps onto Ben Prime's wrist. Ben turns the Omnitrix on for the first time and transforms into a Pyronite. Ben freaks out being on fire at first, but then he realizes that he doesn't feel it. Professor Paradox and the alternate timeline Ben Tennyson leaves to another timeline as Ben starts a forest fire.
Still alive, Vilgax sends a giant attack drone to the Omnitrix's location to retrieve it.
After putting out the fire, the Omnitrix times out and Max tells Ben to not use the watch again. Ben disobeys his orders and transforms into a Vulpimancer.
Ben is attacked by two smaller drones sent by the giant drone to find the Omnitrix. Ben destroys one of them and Gwen destroyed the other.
The giant drone starts attacking a group of campers. Ben transforms into a Petrosapien to destroy it. Vilgax learns about his drone's failure and proclaims that the Earth being that is keeping the Omnitrix away will soon hang on his trophy wall.
Azmuth had observed Ben's actions though secret spying devices in the Omnitrix. Ben's brashness and maturity made a bad impression on him. He believed that Ben and Vilgax were no different, both desiring to use the Omnitrix as a weapon.
He had intended to take the Omnitrix away from Ben but Max convinced him that Ben was the better choice for the Omnitrix than himself. Almost immediately he was convinced he made a huge mistake.
Season 1
As Ben begins to practice using the Omnitrix, he starts making names for his ten different alien forms.
In Washington, Dr. Animo attacks Dr. Kelly with a zombified Tyrannosaurus after stealing some components to finish his invention. Ben stops Animo from killing Dr. Kelly. Dr. Animo grew to despise Ben Tennyson after that day.
Vilgax sends out a request for Bounty Hunters to retrieve the Omnitrix from Earth. Tetrax auditions to insure that Vilgax never gets his claws on the device. Tetrax along with Kraab and Sixsix are chosen for the Job.
The Bounty Hunters tracked the Omnitrix down to New Mexico. Ben not knowing that Tetrax is on his side is forced to defend himself against all three of the hunters. After Tetrax reveals to Ben his intentions they work together to stop Kraab and Sixsix.
After Kraab and Sixsix are defeated, Tetrax gifts Ben a X321 Hoverboard with a holo-message attached that revealed to Ben his name.
Once when Ben went Ghostfreak to sneak into a horror movie, Zs'Skayr took control and contacted Dr. Viktor with his plains.
At an arcade in New York, Ben meets Kevin Levin. They began to become friends after Ben turned into XLR8 to defend Kevin against some thugs.
Kevin tried to use Ben to help him steal some money. Ben realized that Kevin wasn't actually his friend and that he was being used. Ben and Kevin have a battle in a subway where Kevin absorbed Heatblast's DNA. Kevin escapes with new destructive abilities thanks to Ben.
Ben and Kevin later have another battle under a bridge. Kevin tried to forcefully remove the Omnitrix from Ben's wrist, but the watch creates an energy feedback blast that infuses Kevin with the DNA of all ten of Ben's transformations. Ben assumes that Kevin didn't survive the blast.
After an attack from Vilgax's Drones, the biker gang leader Rojo was fused with technology from the drone. Vilgax telepathically sent her instructions to steal the Omnitrix.
Ben transformed into Upgrade attempting to cure her, in doing so Ben saw Vilgax for the first time. Vilgax's DNA was attached to the Omnitrix, allowing him to continue sending Ben messages after he separated from Rojo.[1]
In an Louisiana witchcraft museum, a Master Magician named Hex attempted to steal the Archamada Book of Spells. He was stopped by Ben and he lost one of his five Charms of Bezel.
Ben gave the charm to Gwen, after she learned about it's power she used it to become a superhero, calling herself Lucky Girl.
Hex was resurrected by one of his charms and stole the book. Upon obtaining the book he realized one of his charms had disappeared and was being used by Lucky Girl.
Hex stole the charm back from Lucky Girl and started using the power of all five charms to make the spells of the book real.
Lucky Girl decided to destroy the charms, giving up her hero life and ruining Hex's plains.
The planet Arburia is destroyed by a being known as the Great One.
Vilgax fully recovers from the injuries and sends Ben Tennyson a telepathic message warning him that he's coming.
On path to Mount Rushmore, Vilgax's drones attack a near by city and Ben rushes in to stop them.
Vilgax appears in person and he successfully captures Ben.
Max and Gwen travel to a secret Plumber Base at Mount Rushmore where Max tells Gwen the truth about his job. They take the Rustbucket crash it into the Chimerian Hammer which causes the ships systems to malfunction.
Ben is now free but the power surge causes the Omnitrix to randomize his alien forms and it removed Vilgax's DNA stuck to the Omnitrix.[2]
Vilgax and Ben are battling on Mount Rushmore while Max sets Vilgax's ship to self destruct.
Ben surrenders to Vilgax after he threatens to kill Ben's family. Vilgax boards his ship and discovers the self destruct had been activated. Ben makes his escape and Vilgax tries to teleport to a safe location but the damages to the ship caused a malfunction that beamed him into space.
Season 2
After Ben and Vilgax's first battle, Max Tennyson tells Ben and Gwen about his secret history as a Plumber.
Max's old Plumber partner Phil get's trapped within the Null Void after trying to use the Mount Rushmore's old Null Void projector to make some money.
One week after Arburia's destruction, the Great One arrives on Earth.
Ben unlocks the Arburian Pelarota transformation in the Omnitrix, the Tennysons then realize that there could be hundreds more alien DNA samples within the watch.
Ben kills the Great One as his new transformation.
The Backstory & Dropped Plot Thread List [VERY LONG]
While it began with a settled backstory, a direction in mind, and a lot of ideas, a lot of Steven Universe was left to grow while the show was being made. It seems to have taken a writer's playground approach to construction. While a lot of the ideas in the backstory were used, there were a ton of abandoned plot threads and elements. This is not a comprehensive list, but I cover a lot of them. Please chime in with your own! Laser Light Cannon: How did Greg end up with the cannon? Why did Rose give it to him? What about that totem pole with gem-like figures on it? How about the golf clubs with roses embroidered on it? Concerning Greg and Rose's relationship, there's still a ton of things we never learned. Cheeseburger Backpack: We never did find out the significance of the Lunar Sea Spire. I suppose the statue is supposed to resemble Blue Diamond... but it doesn't, really. There's a lot of ancient gem culture that's still a mystery. (The LSS was revisited, by the way, in Attack The Light.) Together Breakfast: One of the biggies: what is up with the Crystal Heart, which we're given to understand is the core of the Temple. (And, why is it a "temple?" What do gems worship? I can understand Cartoon Network being standoffish about depictions of religion in this political climate, even if they're fictional, but c'mon, this is a show that fearlessly showed animation's first lesbian wedding.) Also, what was the scroll that Garnet was burning, which got into Steven's breakfast? Frybo: Everything about Peedee. Cat Fingers: The Gem Sloop is shown one other time in the series, in storage in Pearl's head. Bubble Buddies: A lot of other things about the Crystal Temple (name assumed) are left mysterious, like how it was made and some things about the nature of its extradimensional space. It's crumbling now (and puts Connie in danger in the process). We also see a gigantic stone sword out in the ocean--since the Temple figure is of Obsidian, we presume that's a representation of her sword. We never see the temple in its original form throughout the whole series, not even in flashback. Serious Steven: The whole thing about the Ziggurat, and the event depicted on its mural, remains unknown. It shows Rose, but the gem she's fighting we don't know. It looks kind of like White, but her gem is in the wrong place. Also, what are those black figures in the background, and what are those hands coming up from below? Does that represent the Cluster? The way the pedestal turns when Steven shows up to collect the gem at its core seems significant, but what was the gem? Why was it waiting for Steven? Tiger Millionaire: Why is that Beach City warehouse used for civic functions despite the big hole in its side? There's also a lot of wrestling characters who don't show up again (except in its sequel, Tiger Philanthropist). Steven's Lion: The Desert Glass is never brought up again. It appears there's a whole class of gem that's not sentient, but still has limited intelligence. These are not revisited later, even in Future. Arcade Mania: A big one IMO, what was going on with Sapphire when Garnet was playing Meat Beat Mania? This is a heavy hint that Garnet was a fusion, of course (and before Giant Woman!), but what was happening to her is never explained. Giant Woman: It was nice to see the Heaven and Earth Beetles uncorrupted in Future (they're still called beetles though). The contents of the Little Beetle Bedroom are weird though, seeing as how they implied that the Heaven Beetle, at least, had some of her mind intact. And a little beetle backpack, and Sega Genesis, as well. (We can probably presume that this was an artist joke, though.) Also: we never see where the Earth Beetle was hanging out. Also, the two are never bubbled but put into a terrarium. And we never find out about the sensory powers of Garnet's visor, that allowed her to find them. So Many Birthdays: We see a grown-up form of Steven that doesn't match what we see in Future, but we can presume that Steven's physical form is fluid enough to explain that. Lars and the Cool Kids: Rose's experiments, or whatever they were, with plant life are not hearkened back to much, although the pink gems that appear when the moss blooms do show up later, in Rising Tides Crashing Skies. Onion Trade: Pearl seems upset when Garnet breaks her duplicating wand; what was it? Where did she get it? Was it one of the trinkets available for accessorizing Pearls at The Reef? Also: why was Amethyst annoyed that Pearl's stuff keeps falling down into her room (also mentioned in Cheeseburger Backpack) when Pearl keeps stuff in her head? Was Pearl's storage system a bit "leaky" before? Steven the Sword Fighter: We find out the sky arena was a platform Blue Diamond used to help oversee the colony's construction, but the significance of the statues is still not known. Lion 2: The Movie: Rose's Armory has a ton of things in it (some of them named in Rose's Scabbard) that are never referred to again. That giant penny, in addition to being an excellent reference to Batman, kind of implies that Rose tried her hand as being a superhero for a while. Beach Party: Not too much unexplained, although the gem's making new clothes for themselves is something that rarely comes up again. Rose's Room: Why does the whale in Rose's Room speak with Rose's voice? At this point, Steven has never heard it before. Also, why is the room's existence set and definite, unlike Sardonyx's room? Maybe the rules are different for fusion rooms. Coach Steven: It's a shame that Sugilite only got a speaking role in this one episode, probably because of the expense of getting Nikki Minaj again. This is an interesting episode for demonstrating that fusing can be dangerous too (which is called back upon when we get to Malachite). Also, the Communications Tower, which shows up again in Cry For Help, is interesting as an example of old gem tech. Joking Victim: What was up with that giant ice cream cone Mayor Dewey was unveiling? ("It melted, Gary!") An Indirect Kiss: The area around Rose's Fountain is interesting. Who built all this, Crystal Gems during the war? Where did they get so many of Rose's tears from? We also get an indication that Rose's animate plants, without her, were directionless. We can presume that Rose controlled them while she was around, while Steven's are more self-motivated, perhaps as an evolution of his powers. Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem: Lapis is crazy strong! Like, could possibly terraform a planet by herself strong! She can even travel in space under her own power! This is referred to later, in Future, but not explained. Another thing is the practice of gems putting other gems into object, which seems torturous. I hope that practice died out. House Guest: Man, that Geode seems ominous. I guess that's some heavy-duty duct tape Greg used, as it's still holding up. Maybe the gems, or even the Diamonds, found another way to fix it themselves. Space Race: Pearl is pretty amazing, even if her ship didn't make it out of Earth's gravity well. At the time we were left to assume that the ship's controls were an example of gem technology, but now it seems likely that they were her creation, perhaps adapted from Earth objects. Also, this is our introduction to The Barn, and the portrait of Greg's uncle and aunt, who we never find out much about, despite their picture appearing as late as Future. Island Adventure: The origin of the geodes on the island, and the mask fish, are unknown, although we do know the site ended up being the home of the Watermelon Stevens. Did they ever uncorrupt the invisible gem monster? Keep Beach City Weird: I guess we can presume that the gem from Horror Club was still in the lighthouse back then. Fusion Cuisine: The restaurant doesn't show up again, except possibly as a site for one of Steven's photos of Connie on his phone. Lion 3 Straight to Video: We still don't know the full nature of the extradimensional space that Lion connects to (and later Lars). We can suspect that part of it is similar to whatever gem technology produced the interior of the Crystal Temple, but not how it was able to bridge distances in space; gems usually used warp pads for that, not extradimensional spaces. There's trees in there, and grass, and a sun, but no breathable air. It seems to be connected with one of Pink Diamond's still-mysterious powers, which may explain why she didn't tell the other gems about it. Alone Together: The warehouse shows up again. Warp Tour: The nature of Warp Space is interesting. How robonoids are made is left up in the air, but we do know that Pearl experimented with one, and Peridot eventually got more when relations with Homeworld thawed. Horror Club: They never returned to the huge gem that Steven saves in the lighthouse, and we never return to Ronaldo and Lars' relationship. Maximum Capacity: Greg's stuff is still in Amethyst's room at the end of this episode, where I presume it's victim to the whims of her nebulous storage system. Now that Greg's rich, presumably he could find a place for all of it. Speaking of rich... Greg mentions his uncle has a mansion, and he has the deed somewhere! Marble Madness: The gem mutants subplot just sort of went away. Presumably there's still some forced fusions hanging around Earth. Maybe Yellow Diamond will spend some time hunting them up in order to try to repair them. Rose's Scabbard: What's the origins of the floating islands hanging over the Strawberry Battlefield? Open Book: Implies that Rose's Room has some kind of innate intelligence. Story for Steven: There's a ton of implied backstory in these flashback episodes, from Greg and Rose's relationship to the gem-influenced history of Beach City to the citizens' relationship with the gems, that we never find out more about. I feel like there's more than enough for a Steven Universe Past series, someday. Political Power: Mayor Dewey notes that the population of Beach City need their electronic distractions to avoid thinking about the fact that disasters keep happening, which is interesting. Ocean Town being somehow even worse off than Beach City is a hilarious joke, but it's also difficult to imagine how that could be so unless there's some huge, undetected gem threat lurking there. The Return/Jailbreak: The hand ship is interesting--it's not one of the Diamond's ships, it's green, and also not a whole arm. Why do gems build ships in the shape of body parts? Joy Ride: The fluid in Peridot's escape pod is interesting; Steven can breathe it, but it never comes up again. Reformed: The Slinker escapes and never comes up again (although it may be the monster the gems fight in the short where Steven unboxes his hot dog bag). Sworn to the Sword: Connie's swordfighting, while awesome, didn't actually turn out to be as important as her empathy, and her willingness to tell off gigantic gem matriarchs. Pearl mentions underwater and low-gravity training, which sound awesome, but we never got to see. Keystone Motel: Greg reveals that he knows Garnet's a fusion here. Onion Friend: There's a lot about Onion that's mysterious, although I think most of it was added as a huge joke on the audience, a gigantic red herring. Historical Friction: Helps fill in the blanks about the early history of Beach City (which appears to be the founding site for the US, like Plymouth Rock, in Steven Universe's alternate version of Earth). Friend Ship: The whole ship is interesting. It's implied that it was one of the first colony ships from Homeworld, which means Pearl and Pink Diamond may have ridden in one of them. There's more in later episodes, but they decrease in number as the show's focus narrows and the plot takes a stronger role. The Moon Base, the Jungle Moon and the shattered planet it orbits, the Star Incinerator, Emerald, what we see of Homeworld, and other things I'm sure, all hint to the larger picture around the show. What have you always wondered about?
Ok, so quick disclaimer: It has been a long, long time since I last watched the series all the way through, so i am likely to get stuff wrong. Correct me as much as you want, please just be nice about it. I'll put an asterisk beside every alien I don't know as much about, or lack full confidence in my assessment of. So, this is basically a list of every alien and whether or not they could beat Vilgax alone. No previous alien beat down or outside help. Only reffering to OG series through to Ultimate Alien. Ignoring Omniverse as i know nothing about the aliens there. Conditions: There is no holding back in any way, Ben is blood thirsty. This is sixteen year old ben with experience against OG series vilgax for the sake of it being a proper fair fight, so no equipment aside from the Omnitrix. Vilgax dies however have his enhancements, as we rarely saw him without them. No time limits apply. Location: Indoor arena made of stone, no objects around to use to one's advantage. No getting in or out. Let's go. (And reminder that Ben's aliens do get stronger as he gets older, so certain aliens who lost in og series may win here) Orginal series Aliens: Grey Matter - No chance. At best there will be a game of cat and mouse, and maybe GM could do some smart nerve stuff to slow Vilgax down but ultimately he is getting crushed without any way to build or rewire stuff or escape. Vilgax wins. Wildmutt - Nope. a beating so bad, PETA will fall in love, while actual animal lovers die of horror. The only possible exception is if he managed to catch vilgax off guard fast enough to bite into his throat though im not sure that would even work. Vilgax wins. Upgrade - Something of a more even fight. Due to upgrades flexible body and somewhat enhanced strength this fight will drag out a little with Upgrade getting some good shots in, by morphing weapons out of his body. However despite that i believe he wasn't invulnerable, so if vilgax ripped him apart then he would be defeated. I think this could end in a draw, but without anything to upgrade, it is more likely to end in Vilgax's favour. Ripjaws - Yeah....no. Even were they underwater i'd expect Vilgax to annihilate rip jaws. On land this is just going to be a murder. Vilgax wins. Ditto - I honestly don't know if this would end worse than Ripjaws. It would go from a murder to a massacre. Vilgax wins. Eye Guy* - If he is able to mantain his distance, then I do in fact believe Eye Guy could defeat Vilgax. Unfortunately all it would really take for Vilgax to win is to punch him in the eye once then not let up an assault as i don't believe Eye Guy had strength to even match half of Vilgax. Way Big - Ok lets be nice to ben a moment and give him a win. Way Big could probably outright eat Vilgax and not even notice. Way Big wins. Blitzwolfer* - While he could likely scream Vilgax into a stunned state, it would take everything blitzwolfer has, beating on the stunned Vilgax and making well timed strategic retreats before he can recover. If he's too slow to retreat though, Vilgax will likely rip him to shreds. So this was is more in Vilgax's favour but certainly possible for Blitzwolfer to win. Buzzshock - Without any conducive materials and with Vilgax primarily using his fists in this fight, it is going to more or less be the same situation as grey matter but perhaps faster as Buzzshock will likely run out of energy. With no slicing apart, there is no cloning for more damage. Vilgax wins. Stinkfly - This one was tricky to me, due to us knowing stinkfly is capable of flying while carrying Vilgax's body weight. However, i believe that, with ben's age making his aliens stronger the adhesive goop stinkfly creates will be much harder for Vilgax to escape from. Certainly he can manage but it will take him a moment or two, giving stinkfly opportunities to strike with his tail. If he keeps Vilgax away while doing this throughout the fight he can win, but if Vilgax gets close enough to tear off Stinkfly's wings, and uses the potential disorientation to make ben worse at aiming he could beat down Stinkfly. Either way this would be a long and surprisingly matched fight compared to what i expected. Possibly draw, with a slight advantage on Stinkfly's side. Upchuck* - So initially I was ready to laugh this one off, then a thought struck me, i don't know how "strong" his ability to eat is. When i say that, i mean the sucking things in or biting them, just how strong those tongue things are. If they were strong enough to get off parts of Vilgax's prothestics then it could actually end up being a win for Upchuck by way of at least completely disabling Vilgax. I don't know if he can do that though so until i do, i'm giving it to Vilgax as aside from that possibility Vilgax stomps upchuck, even if he is surprisingly durable. Vilgax wins. Snare-oh* - Unless Vilgax had scussors on him because he was going to an arts and crafts fair, which i doubt, i'd actually have to give this to Snare-oh due to two moments. The recovery from being shredded in the fan and holding back fourmungosaur at around the same age we have him here. It would be a long, long, long fight as Snare-oh's strength couldn't compare to Vilgax but without time limits, he could play it like an endurance match. Of course Vilgax could win by trapping the bandages under foot, so that could be a problem. Still, with the skill and practice ben should have, i say Snare-oh will take this one just barely. Snare-oh wins. Frakenstrike* - Unfortunately i really don't have much to work with here, as i did the others but from what i do know, i'd say this would be a long and violent battle that would hinge upon how much electricity Frakenstrike could generate for one ultimate attack. As i could find nothing suggesting an immunity to electricity from Vilgax nor a good feat to see the upper limits of Frakenstrike's strength, this is the only way i can think of that would result in a definite victory. Otherwise i'm forced to call it a draw for now. Heatblast - Now finally we're onto the aliens from the orginal series we all actually care about in this scenario. For heatblast, i find myself a little stuck as we know that Vilgax was seemingly immune to heatblasts most powerful heatwave, and gwen called a 4 years old HB's temper tantrum super nova hot. For the sake of argument, and the fact that i'm pretty sure earth would of suffered far worse if gwen was right, i'mma say ben didn't reach supernova hot but he COULD given time and some practice. Assuming that to be true, i'd imagine even Vilgax would struggle against the intensity of those attacks. In that scenario, heatblast could win. If however you don't want to acknowledge that, then Vilgax wins. Wildvine - I'd imagine this would be a similar scenario to Snare-oh except faster due to the seeds he could produce giving him more advantages, as well as his vines being more versatile and potentially lethal. Wildvine wins. Ghostfreak - As long as he can dodge Vilgax's eye lasers, which i believe are a natural ability capable of canceling out intangibilty, Ghostfreak wins without any real doubt. Ghostfreak wins. Cannonbolt - Enclosed room, so yes this is pretty ideal for Cannonbolt. It's essentially the same scenario as when Ben fought Kevin on the arena ship during their escape, except we do know Vilgax is strong enough to punch Cannonbolt to a stop if he times his attack right. Honestly this would be a bit of a gruelling match but as long as ben can remain concious to keep going at it, Cannonbolt would win eventually. Cannonbolt wins. XLR8 - The best alien of the entire series, don't @ me. So, to check this properly i did some quick maths. Assuming OG series at ten years old he was capable of moving 500MPH, and ben 10,000 at 30 was able to travel globally in let's say for sake of argument 4 hours, we then know at age 30 XLR8 could move at 1979.375MPH. Of course, this likely isn't exact but works for our purposes, using multiplication we can find out XLR8's speed increased by four times in those 20 years. Half of it is 1000 and we realise it increases by 50 to 75 every year, assuming i haven't messed up somewhere. Taking the lowest number, at age 16 XLR8 should have a top speed of 1500MPH more or less. While yes Vilgax was able to react to og series XLR8, he caught XLR8 off guard and it was when he was much slower, in this case i have to give it to XLR8. XLR8 wins. Diamondhead - Diamondhead wins, with little to no room for doubt. While a younger Diamondhead may have shattered their body attacking Vilgax, age likely will have improved the structural integrity of the crystals and as a result allowed for a proper one on one brawl that Diamondhead could assuredly win through combat ability, though possibly it would also end up in a potential draw or loss until the rest of Diamondheads powers come in. With his ability to create crystals to entrap Vilgax over and over, projectiles he could aim at the head and the ability to turn his hands into crystaline maces of destruction Vilgax is the loser here. Diamondhead wins. Four Arms - This one is the most likely to flip back in forth in my mind, however i more settle upon Four Arms winning when ben's more experienced. Not only is older ben stronger but i believe the real issue ben had with the orginal four arms is he was so focused on the pure strength of FA he failed to rely on his actual combat abilities. By that i mean, to compare to Humungousaur from AF, who was pure strength through and through, Four Arms actually possessed great agility and an actual fighters build. Of course, as we are talking older ben, who should realize this AND is even stronger, this may be the most WWE of the fights that will ultimately go to Four Arms. Four Arms wins. Skipping over Spitter and Articguana as their only ben 10,000 in og Alien Force Aliens: Alien X - Lets just get the obvious out the way. If they agree, Vilgax is going to burst into jam everywhere. Otherwise if they get stuck arguing, Vilgax wins by default. Rath - LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING RANDOM REDDITOR WHOSE PROBABLY READING THIS BECAUSE THEY'RE A BORED LONER WHO DOESN'T WANT TO INTERACT WITH PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE, IF RATH THINKS RATH CAN WIN AGAINST VILGAX THAN RATH HAS ANOTHER THING COMING! RATH MAY MAKE A MASSIVE FIGHT AND A GREAT STAND AGAINST VILGAX BUT VILGAX WILL ANNIHILATE RATH! RATH CAN HURT HIM A LOT BUT RATH WILL BE TOSSED LIKE A RAGDOLL. VILGAX WINS. AGGGHHHHHHH. Nanomech - Apologies, no idea what came over me there. Anyways, Nanomech does have a dodging advantage of being so tiny he could easily hide away from Vilgax and so long as he's fast enough to avoid being swatted, fly inside Vilgax and start messing with his heart. Nanomech wins. Lodestar* - This one is entirely dependent on whether or not Vilgax manages to knock Lodestars head off. If he does the body coukd be defeated easily, though i have no idea of the regeneration ability will work like this. If it does, or Vilgax doesn't manage to knock of his head, this will be one of those long endurance matches that ultimately end up in Ben's favour. Brainstorm* - This is another one dependant upon a specific action but this time it's ben who'd need to use the mnemokinesis he once displayed to erase Vilgax's memories specfically of how to fight then fry him alive with so many electric blasts. If he doesn't, Vilgax basically just has to stomp him down and have crab meat for dinner. Chromastone - With a lack of energy sources, and Vilgax's "battle" against sugilite as a reference, while it may be relatively even at the start with Ben having some blasts ready as soon as he rund out he'll be beaten down hard. It will probably last a long time but eventually end with his shattering. Vilgax wins. Echo Echo - If Ditto wasn't terrible this is the result. Vilgax could stomp many of them but as more and more keep coming he's essentially facing a never ending army, who are capable of shattering steel with their ultrasonic screams. Pushed to the limit they might legit make Vilgax's head explode. Echo Echo wins. Jetray - I think this would be a long and frustrating fight on both sides, with Jetray moving to fast to catch and his eyebeams being fairly ineffective against Vilgax. It would either end in a draw or Vilgax eventually grabbing him and whaling on him. So tie with slight advantage to Vilgax. Goop - Endurance match that Goop was never going to lose. It's honestly unfair in a lot of ways. If want to end it even faster, goop could slime his way inside Vilgax and....yeah....Goop wins. Spider-monkey - The only way to win eith Spider-monkey is a battle of wits and skillful movement, amazing dodges and carefully executed and well timed strikes. I don't think it's impossible for Spider-Monkey to put up a good fight, even win if the stars align but i think it's very very unlikely for him to pull ut off as well as he'd need to. So i'm giving this one to Vilgax for now. Vilgax wins. Swampfire - For the most part this is the same as wildvine except he can physically brawl with Vilgax. His fire will likely do nothing though so debatably he's worse off. He could still win though. Swampfire wins. Big Chill - One of the faster fights, so long as he doesn't allow his intangibilty to be counteracted he could freeze vilgax, which he'd likely escape but he could freeze him from the inside, including the heart and outright shattering it. Or eat it, i suppose. Big Chill wins. Humongousaur - Remember what i said Before about Four Arms being more about combat ability and Humongousaur being about being strong? Yeah well in this fight Humungousaur stomps as hard, if not harder than Way Big. For one he could just grew to full size, which is about a third or halfway to way big size in of itself and even increases strength to fight or stay normal size where i believe he was still strong enough to lift a To'kustar. What im saying is, secret of chromastone really flaked us with that one fight. Humungousaur wins. Ultimate alien aliens: Any of the ultimates, sans Wildmutt - Yes, easily. Kind of the whole point really. Ultimates win. Ultimate wildmutt - maybe lasts longer than regular wildmutt but still gets a major beatdown in the end. Vilgax wins. Water Hazard - Water Hazard wins but only after a long, long fight. As both are are near invulnerable, and Waterhazard should be safe from energy and heat in this scenario, it comes down to going at it until Vilgax is beaten down. Water Hazard wins, barely. Terraspin - As long as Ben retreats into his shell at the right times, this should be a somewhat similar scenario to diamond head except purely brawling and thus taking much longer. Terraspin wins. Jury Rigg - I give him ten seconds before he becomes paste. Vilgax wins. Eatle* - I don't imagine he'd do very well, except under the same conditions i specified for Upchuck above. However i have never actually seen an episode with Eatle so i really am not qualified with this one. Based off what i do know, im going to say Vilgax wins for now. Chamalien - While he might do better than wildmutt, with Vilgax's hearing and knowing to look out for him his camouflage is worthless and his enhanced strength means nothing without the durability to last against Vilgax. Vilgax wins. AmpFibian - This ultimately ends up the same as Big Chill except with electrocuting the heart instead of freezing it. AmpFibian wins. Fasttrack - He will ultimately be torn apart, like he deserves as worst alien. He will however hold his own for a while i will admit. Vilgax wins. NRG - Another one i almost feel bad for Vilgax ending up against. Even with his durability taking punches from the material of that suit is going to hurt like hell and we know thats only to contain NRG's full power. Vilgax may be incredibly resistant to heat but i doubt even he can withstand direct continuous contact with what is essentially a living star. NRG just has to grab hold of Vilgax's head with his uncontained hands and it'll be over in moments. Shocksquatch* - I have no idea what this one's really capable of but from what I am aware of, i doubt he can generate enough electricity to ultimately stop Vilgax reaching him and when Vilgax does its over. Vilgax wins. Armodrillo* - If Ben can knock Vilgax over and place his drill hands over his head i might see him winning, otherwise it's finally an endurance match in Vilgax's favour. Clockwork* - Age Vilgax's body and armor to near death/destruction and just punch him full force with your heavy metal fist. Or erase him from time. Clockwork wins. Tl:dr: Vilgax wins: Grey Matter, Wildmutt, Upgrade, Ripjaws, Ditto, Eye Guy, Blitzwolfer, Buzzshock, Upchuck, Heatblast, Alien X, Rath, Chromastone, Jetray, Spider-monkey, Ultimate Wildmutt, Jurry Rigg, Eatle, Chamalien, Fasttrack, Shocksquatch, Armodrillo. Tie: Frakenstrike, Alien X, Lodestar, Brainstorm, Ben wins: Way Big, Stinkfly, Heatblast, Snare-oh, Wildvine, Ghostfreak, Cannonbolt, XLR8, Diamondhead, Four arms, Alien X, Nanomech, Echo Echo, Goop, Swampfire, Big Chill, Humungousaur, Ultimate Transformations, Water Hazard, Terraspin, AmpFibian, NRG, Clockwork.
Also, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t on before, and I didn’t hear any cues that suggested that it was being turned on, so it was a little jarring to just have it be there.
“It feels like we’ve been searching for lightyears!” “Uh, lightyears measures light, not years.” Uh...that doesn’t really make any sense. That’s like saying ‘Mph’s measure cars”. It doesn’t measure the object that travels, it measures the distance the object travels.
Something interesting that I just noticed. Before, Lapis’ hair went forwards, but here it’s actually going out to the sides, like ArmsLegs’ hair.
Okay, this is really creepy stuff. I like that Steven immediately realizes that this isn’t normal, too. I feel like a lot of shows would have ran with Steven thinking that it was a dream for some time, but it feels like he knows right away that something’s up.
Pearl interrupts the dream? Unlucky.
Oh, I just realized, Pearl was actually just watching Steven sleep, wasn’t she?
I quite like the idea that Pearl’s never slept before in her life. It’s always wonderful, watching Steven introduce her to aspects of human life.
I wish I could remember my dreams like Steven. I forget almost all of my dreams when I wake up, and even the ones I remember are more bits of visuals or emotions than anything solid.
“I hope the rumors about Dogcopter in the tabloids aren’t true.” I just avoid learning anything about celebrities for this very reason. It’s one of the reasons I don’t look up any musicians that I like. Also, I don’t like knowing what a musician looks like. Does anyone else feel that way?
By the ways, I am looking very intently for any subtle hints or metaphors we might get in this dream, but I don’t think I’ve found anything really substantial yet.
I like how this looks. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a single color dominating most of the screen, but it just looks fantastic. It’s very clean looking, I think.
By the ways, have yinz seen the behind the scenes video for Samurai Jack? I’m very excited for it now.
Lapis! Like, the actual Lapis? It seems like it, but what does that mean? How is Steven able to communicate with her?
I like that Pearl immediately realizes that Steven’s serious and stops to listen to him. We’re seeing Steven mature, and the people around him are starting to respect him in a more adult way.
“Steven, you could be using your dreams to connect with her mentally.” How, though? What allows him to do this?
“Maybe Lapis can just tell you where they are.” Hm… I don’t think she will. Remember that whole ‘You’re going to be my prisoner forever’ thing?
“Oh! I know this is a dream, now.” Okay, so we’re lucid dreaming now. Will this impact how Steven can interact with Lapis?
“I can imagine anything I want, like...a mashed potato.” Is not potato but is actually in fact fish “Hrm…”
This is very interesting, visualy. Lapis said that Jasper would be her prisoner, but it looks more like she’s being held here than anything else.
Woah, that’s cool. She’s holding them down with the weight of the entire ocean? How strong is ArmsLegs then? Jesus!
Woah, this is absolutely awesome looking! So they’re each fighting to be in control, and only one of them can be on top at any one time? What a fascinating relationship they have with each other.
I’m not going to lie, I leaned away from my monitor when she said that.
Man, this whole scene is really well done. This music is pretty fantastic, too. It actually kind of reminds me a little of Cell’s Theme, but with less of an emphasis on being badass and more on creepy horror.
Man, what a beautiful shot. Seriously, show someone Gem Glow and then show them this image, and I doubt that they’d even realize it’s the same show.
“Don’t look for me. I don’t want your help!” Yikes. Lapis clearly needs help, but she’s so stuck in this weird power struggle mentality that she doesn’t want it at all.
“Just let me do this for you!” Seriously, what is it with the Lapis-Pearl similarities? We keep seeing them share lines and delivery over and over again. There’s got to be a reason for it.
“We’re Malachite now.” Malachite? What a cool fucking name! It’s just got a great ring to it.
Oh, I see, they modeled their...mindscape place...after the actual gemstone.
Wow, what a terrifying shot. Something about the emotions on Malachite’s face really interest me, though. There’s confusion, surprise, and some subdued anger.
“Amethyst was on a skateboard, and then Dogcopter meowed at, and then was just not interested in what I had to say at all, and I might have some issues I need to work out, but Lapis! She’s out there and she’s still-” “Sh...I know you’re worried, but there’s nothing we can do right now, so let’s take it easy.
This was a really great episode. First off, learning Malachite’s name was really cool, and the way we learned it was even better. Everything in that scene was pretty amazing. The animation was especially fantastic there, I think. The way Lapis and Jasper looked absolutely exhausted and defeated was really great, and their expressive emotions were really well animated. Most of the early stuff was really fun, especially anything with Pearl, and so hitting the dark stuff with Lapis was really unexpected and carried a lot of weight. I thought this would be a lighter episode, but it turns out that there’s no such thing in Steven Universe! I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes, so let’s get into the next episode.
Episode 63- Cry For Help
Steven's favorite TV show gets interrupted by a magical disturbance. Written and Storyboarded by Joe Johnston and Jeff Liu
“You guys should form Sugilite!” Maybe not the best idea, considering what happened last time. Still, Amethyst and Garnet are pretty different now, so maybe it wouldn’t be too bad.
Nevermind, I guess they’re not going with Sugilite. I don’t think Opal would be equipped to handle this, and the gems on their own wouldn’t, so either the tower doesn’t get destroyed right away, or we finally get to see Garnet and Pearl fuse.
This is so interesting. Why did Amethyst and Pearl both react so strongly to fusing with Garnet? Is there something special about it? Maybe it’s because Garnet’s already a fusion. You’d think they would have a similar reaction when they formed Alexandrite, though, if that was the case.
Wow, that’s really sensual. I don’t think I could imagine seeing something like this in a children’s cartoon 5 years ago.
Then again, five years ago I was a snotty little brat who probably thought that I was too cool for cartoons. I don’t think there was much good on at the time, though.
Man, I am loving this fusion dance a ton. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen one, and this one is really enjoyable to watch. I’m also very excited to see what exactly comes out of this fusion, though, so there might be a little bias there.
Wait, I don’t think I’ve ever noticed this before, but their gems glow when they do fusion dances!
“This is the lovely Sardonyx coming to you live from the soon to be former communication hub. How are y’all doing tonight?” Interesting! She’s got a performance theme. I really was not expecting something like this. It’s really creative, and I don’t think I could have guessed anything like it at all.
Also, I’ve noticed that I’ve slowly gotten used to the enormous amounts of hype this show gives me for fusions. Just so you know, I’m crazy excited, but I don’t think it would be very interesting to hear me say the same thing every time we saw a new fusion or character, so I try to tone it down a bit and keep to a discussionary tone.
I’ve been narrowing down exactly what I’m getting from Sardonyx, and it feels like she’s a performer or magican from Las Vegas. I could see her cohosting Penn and Teller easily.
Interesting that Amethyst feels so down about this whole situation. I can really understand it, though. Garnet basically told Amethyst that she was the reason Sugilite failed, since Sardonyx is so ‘perfect’. I’m thinking that Cry For Help is going to have a second meaning, and we’re going to spend most of this episode dealing with the emotional baggage that Amethyst has.
Okay, that’s awesome. Actually, Sardonyx is giving me a real “Fairly Odd Parents” vibe, too! Man, that show was so good before it was Spongebob’d.
“Are you gonna smash stuff with your warhammer?” “Hm...Smash is the word one would use to describe what someone else might do.” Ah, I see we still have Pearl’s saltiness in there.
“The proper words to describe yours truly are...Specific! Intelligent! Accurate! Faultless! Elegant… “ Man, I love the delivery on this line. It’s making it clear to me that Sardonyx has as many issues as Sugilite does, even if they’re not as apparent or outwardly destructive. She seems to enjoy making Amethyst feel absolutely awful. She’s a bully who seeks attention and hurts people in all the little, subtle ways that you can’t call her out on. The exact kind of person I hate the most. I’ve known a couple Sardonyx’s.
Sardonyx also has amazing delivery. I wonder who her voice actress is…
Alexia Khamide, huh? She really nailed it here. Good Jorb, Alexia!
Well, that was a lovely scene! I quite enjoyed that. I think I hate Sardonyx as a person, but she’s a really interesting character and I hope we get to see more of her.
Well, now we’ve seen all of the Crystal Gem fusions. I think that, of the four of them, my favorite is probably Opal, even though we’ve seen so little of her.
Garnet’s “We were awesome” is kind of adorable. It’s a shame that all of these happy feelings are going to be twice as painful as they were adorable when we get to Amethyst.
“Why, Pear? Why did you lie to me?” “I didn’t mean to…” Poor Pear. We might be getting a little metaphor here for Pearl and Garnet, I think. They hurt Amethyst without meaning too.
Huh. The signal came back? I guess Peridot went and fixed the place again. Why didn’t Sardonyx fully destroy the place? Just absolutely ruin it?
Oh, I see. Sardonx, consciously or unconsciously, left the place unbroken so that she could be in the limelight again.
Yeah, I really do not like Sardonyx. She’s putting people at risk and humiliating Amethyst. Clearly Garnet and Pearl are too caught up in themselves to notice what’s happening, but I hope Steven does soon, because I really feel absolutely awful for Amethyst. Nobody should have to go through something like that.
Man, this song is already starting off with some heavy emotions.
“I had to use you to make me feel strong, but I don’t care about that now.” I’m already crying and we’re maybe 10 seconds into the song. Shit. I’m going to die here.
“Can I make it up to you?” Jesus, that’s some tough stuff right there. Amethyst thinks that she’s to blame because Garnet, Pearl, and Sardonyx are all telling her. The worst part, though, is that there’s some truth to what they’re saying. Amethyst and Garnet messed up, and that’s partially Amethyst’s fault. She needs to realize, though, that it’s Garnet’s, too, and they need to find somewhere to meet in the middle here.
They’re doing a stakeout for Peridot? I don’t think that’s going to magically solve all of their relationship issues.
“It’s Peridot’s escape pod. She...fixed it somehow?” “But I thought we had it!” Oh...OH…
So, which one is it going to be? Garnet or Pearl? Maybe both? But I don’t think Garnet would actually be on board with this one. What was it Amethyst said again? I had to use you to make me feel strong? Seems to me like Pearl is our lucky contender.
Yeah, this is super shitty. Pearl’s lying to Garnet for emotional enjoyment. It’s basically sex under false pretenses. This is almost as shitty as what Sadie did to Lars.
“Garnet! It’s the hub again.” What, like this one?
“Stop!” I have no idea why, but I swear that Amethyst sounds exactly like Ash Ketchum here. Also, it’s good that Amethyst is stopping this before it can get any further. A relationship built on something as negative as this is bound to fail horribly.
I love this shot. Being able to see both of them in real time is absolutely great for an emotional scene like this one. I could also pretty reasonably construct a metaphor about how we’re looking through Pearl’s perspective and she’s only seeing herself and what she did, although I don’t know if this will stand up at all to what’s about to happen.
And Amethyst comes to Pearl’s defense here? That’s really interesting. I notice that we haven’t dealt with the emotional impact of Sardonyx hurting Amethyst yet, so I’m wondering if we’re going to hold onto that one for awhile. If there’s one thing characters in Steven Universe are good at, it’s holding onto negative emotions.
Oh my god, I had my metaphor so close. I thought this episode’s focus would be about Pearl hurting Amethyst when it was actually about Pearl hurting Garnet.
“Man, it sure would be nice if things worked out the way they do in cartoons…” “Yeah, it would.” So we’re holding this for later, then? What a way to end an episode.
Oh shit, there’s a totally different ending theme! I really like it’s drifting ambient tones. It reminds me a lot of something you might find on the Transistor soundtrack. Maybe like a more relaxed Coasting? It’s good, though. I like it a lot.
Closing Thoughts-
This was a powerful episode. We met Sardonyx, who’s a manipulative, attention-seeking bully, and we learned that Pearl’s willing to lie to people to feel better. We also learned that Amethyst blames herself for Sugilite’s behavior exclusively, and we got some really tense drama between all of the characters. This is probably the worst we’ve seen the gems be to one another and themselves. This episode was really interesting to watch because it does a complete 180 on where it seems to be going about two thirds of the way through the episode. There’s so much to talk about with this episode, but I want to hold onto it for awhile until I have a better sense of what’s going to happen. Still, this was a great episode, and I really enjoyed it. Also, please keep your discussion spoiler free! I’m trying to go into this show with as little knowledge about it beforehand as possible, so as to keep my reactions as, well, reactionary as they can be! Anyways, let’s get into the episode!
Episode 19- Rose’s Room
A new room is unlocked in the Temple that grants Steven's every wish, but such power threatens to teach him a lesson. Written and Storyboarded by Joe Johnston and Jeff Liu
A-already? Didn’t we just get one of these? Oh man.
Also, Rose’s room? Are we going to learn more about Rose? Watch this episode be something entirely different.
Creamed corn? What kind of terrible parent even buys that for their child?!
I tried to find a man vs food video about corn but not even Adam Richman eats creamed corn. When Adam Richman eats better than you, you know you have a problem.
5 Dollar coupons? That can costed a dollar, at most! That’s terrible business!
Oh, he subjected himself to cream corn for the gems. That’s pretty cute, if still unsettling because seriously creamed corn is nasty.
So, the gems do seem to genuinely want to be able to spend time with Steven. I like that. A lot of shows would just have the “adult” figures be unwilling to play along with the kid. Hell, minigolfing is fun as hell! I’ll go with you, Steven!
That was the secret ending? That kind of sucked. What about Operation FLOG? Where did that go? Is this just sequel-bait?
I guess he can’t eat food in here. Makes sense, I suppose. None of this is real, so he can’t digest energy that doesn’t exist. I wonder about the physics of this whole place, though. Once again, z-space theories seem to pop up everywhere. Weapon summoning, fusion (though now disproven), that cave that had those weapons, Lion’s head sword, and now this place.
Also, this is how you do a fucking jumpscare. You don’t need to execute an entire orchestra simultaneously every time something scary happens. Just show it to us!
This whole place really feels like a glitchy computer. This, especially, feels like a videogame thing, with characters doing the same thing and objects overlapping.
This episode had some unexpected horror! You know how I feel about horror, so this episode was really fun for me. The music was fantastic. It had this constant glitchy vibe going on, with musical cuts and distortion, and the song that plays when Steven is exploring the town is absolutely serene. I loved how the town was drawn in this episode! I hope we get to see more scenes in the nighttime, because I love how it looks in this show. This episode was really good, one of my favorites so far! It’s definitely on my top 5. Let’s move on, shall we?
Episode 20- Coach Steven
Steven is resolved to get super strong and takes physical training to a new level after witnessing Gamet and Amethyst's fusion into Sugilite. Written and Storyboarded by Raven M. Molisee and Paul Villeco
“This was once a communication hub for gemkind!” I don’t know what to think of this, but it’s definitely important.
“It’s hurting television.” NOOOOOO!
Oh my god Steven said the exact same thing as me I’m dying
“I got hit by a rock!” Man, this kid is super resilient! Makes sense for the team tank, though.
Oh! I’ll assign each of the gems a role! Steven is the Tank Cleric, Garnet is a Melee Bruiser, Amethyst is the Middle Range DPS, and Amethyst is Debuffer.
Combined into their fusions, Opal is Debuff/DPS, Sugilite is Debuff Bruiser, and PearlNet is DPS Fighter.
“Hey, Pearl. Come to check out some buff studs?” “No.” This is actually Pearl’s best line ever I’m dying.
“Imma get supa strong!” Pearl blushes “Like Sugilite!” Pearl frowns
Man, this whole dynamic between Pearl and Sugilite is really interesting. There are some very sexual tones in the formation of Sugilite, and it really seems like she’s not too worried about what happens to the people around her. I can’t wait to see where they go with this!
“But I want to be strong in the real way!” That’s the interesting thing, too. Pearl doesn’t disagree with Steven working out. She’s just worried that Sugilite is a role model for him.
SONG?
SONG!
Oh, shit! She’s a good singer, too!
Wow, this song is really good so far. I love that Pearl sees the glasses and instantly understands, too.
“Can’t you see that she’s out of control and overzealous? I’m telling you for your own good, and not because I’m-” Oh wow that is clever as shit!
Also I love that she follows the piano there.
Oh. Strong in the real way. That’s actually super clever. They’re both using that phrase to describe entirely different types of strength, but neither is necessarily wrong. They both have faults in their thinking.
“I want to inspire you! I want to be your rock, and when I talk, it lights a fire in you!” This song is really creative with it’s rhyming!
And God damn Deedee Magno is a good singer!
Oh! Steven singing as well! Let’s get it rolling!
It’s pretty good. I like that they use the microphone as a voice effect. Also, Steven has a pretty high range!
Man! This song fucking rocks!
“Hey! Steven! Maybe,uh, you can work a bit too?” Oh my god has he actually been singing this song to them?
Does that mean that Pearl was also singing? I can imagine her singing to herself as she cleans up after Steven.
“I’m switching to 4 wheel drive!” Pffff
I feel for Steven. Being sore in the morning is actually the worst thing on the planet.
“I don’t understand! Amethyst and Garnet still aren’t back yet!” I mean, Sugilite did destroy the teleporter, right? They could be anywhere on the planet.
Yeah, Pearl and Sugilite talking really has a lot of subtle hints as towards their relationship. Pearl is clearly afraid of Sugilite, and Sugilite is using her fear as a weapon of intimidation.
“You’ve been fused for too long! You’re losing yourselves!” So, if gems stay fused for too long, they lose themselves in the fusion? That’s really fascinating.
I just noticed that Sugilite’s arms split at the elbow. That’s pretty cool.
“You...Ain’t...Nothing!” What horrifying line delivery.
Man, poor Pearl. She feels like she doesn’t have the ability to protect any of the people around her. We’ve gotten some interesting characterization this episode. She doesn’t think she’s able to be enough for Steven. Earlier, when I was making my theory that the Cool Kids are, in terms of character, related to the Crystal Gems, I brought up Sour Cream’s insecurity, and how I felt that we might see some of that in Pearl. Well, here we are! As a reference, in case the other character traits carry over, Amethyst’s counterpart, Jenny, doesn’t get along with her family, while Garnet’s counterpart, Buck, thinks that emotional distance makes them who they are. Moving on.
“I can’t…” I think Pearl’s voice actor might be my favorite for scenes like these. She really puts a lot of emotion into her lines.
Oh, man. Holy shit that hit hard. “You’re strong, Pearl! Strong in the real way!” with the chords from Strong in the Real Way playing… I didn’t expect to cry here, but I definitely did.
I’d also like to add that we see this through the music in an interesting way. For the first time in the episode, we see Sugilite without her musical themes. In other words, the music, which is a song about the strength of the bond between Steven and Pearl, has finally overpowered the harshness of Sugilite. I love this episode so much.
“You’re no match for me!” This is so wonderful! Pearl is finally confident and in charge.
I love the song that’s playing during this section. It’s got such a wonderful tone.
I’m so happy that Pearl’s first words after beating Sugilite are, “Amethyst! Garnet! Are you okay?” She really does want to protect them. She’s such a maternal figure to the people in her life.
“Yeah! I was right!” I was gonna say something like, “Back to normal, Pearl…”, but this feels different somehow. Before, she would have used her “rightness” to make fun of Amethyst, or to prove something to Steven. Now, she’s just enjoying being right. She’s internalized it, and is evolving as a person into a more confident character. Deedee really poured her heart out into Pearl, and I can absolutely feel it in these episodes.
“We deserve it.” Wasn’t it more Sugilite, though? I guess she means because they didn’t listen when Pearl suggested against Sugilite fusing.
I love when they mess around with the star gag at the end of the episode!
Closing thoughts-
This episode was, start to finish, incredible. The animation was fantastic, the music was unbelievable stellar, and the voice acing… the voice acting! MMMM! The song, which was wonderful sounding, was used as a motif throughout the rest of the episode, and it was so powerful! I loved Sugilite; Nicki Minaj was born to voice act for that role. Pearl’s acting, too, was absolutely incredible. She put so many different and complex emotions into her lines, and it’s really incredible to watch. Let’s get into the episode ranking! My top five episodes are-
Coach Steven
Laser Light Cannon
Giant Woman
So Many Birthdays
Rose’s Room
That’s right! Laser Light Cannon is officially, for real this time, actually dethroned! As for my musical list, it goes as follows-
Strong in the Real Way
Giant Woman
Let me drive my van into your heart
Cookie Cat Rap
As always, thanks for reading! Please, please, please keep your discussion spoiler free! I want to go into this show as blindly as I can. I’m already very irritated at the sub. Even though I have subreddit style turned off, I can still see the reddit alien variation for Steven Universe, so now I know that there is going to be both a blue and a red gem. Still, I’m looking forward to meeting them! Finally, a question- [EDIT] I had originally asked for what episode you guys were most excited about me seeing, but then realized that it might get spoiler heavy, so I changed it to-
What is your favorite crossover between series, one of which must be Steven Universe, using the characters we've met?
YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ PART 2 IF YOU'RE SHORT ON TIME OR PATIENCE
I'm not sure if it's okay to post entire essays in these text posts, but there doesn't seem to be a word limit so... I tried by best with the formatting, hope you all can read this.
Part 1: Introductions About a month ago, I found Aivi and Surasshu on Soundcloud and fell in love. I mean, fell hard. "The Black Box" covers so many moods and styles while still feeling completely in control and intent in every track. As most of you here probably know, however, Aivi and Surasshu are not known mostly for The Black Box, but for the sountrack of Steven Universe. After searching the artist of The Black Box craving more music I was initially struck with the over 100 sounds and near 3 hours of content. Listening through though, I can safely say that almost every track is just as and usually more amazing than anything on The Black Box. I mean, talk about diversity in style! I could talk for hours about the many nuances of the Steven Universe Soundtrack. Actually yeah, let me do that. Skip this part if you already know how awesome this music is!
Part 2: Steven Universe Soundtrack musings Listen along with me, it's free! https://soundcloud.com/aivisura/sets/steven-universe Initially, "Steven's Shield" was a quaint opening that had me expecting a nice and heartfelt yet playful setlist. A good song to be sure, but that mood was immediately overturned with "The Mother". The clean fast synth drums play so darkly off of the thick synths that I feel like I need to take a breath every time I hear it. This soundtrack clearly knows how to handle many different styles. If I go into every song I might be here all day, and I don't want to lose sleep. Here are a ""few"" notable examples of things I liked in the soundtrack.
I could listen to "Pearl's Room" for hours. It starts so regal, but when the syncopation hits...
What's up with "Drop the Strawberry"? I get the title pun, but why does that song exist? Never before have I heard a song switch moods so fast and then switch back like it never happened.
"Desert Glass" sure sounds scary. Around this point I noticed the use of Heavy Synths to mean Danger This is certainly a dangerous song.
Oh my goodness "Amalgam". Such a well constructed song... you can tell that it consists of an amalgamation of that recurring sharp-attacking bright piano mixed with some real funky bass and drums, to great effect. This same mix was used later in the next song, "Opal", but this time less obviously amalgamated and more cohesively intertwined.
Every time I hear that piano my smile grows just a little. "Dance of Swords" is a good example, with the piano put over a simple synth drum meat. The song sounds very resolute, like I wold imagine two people dancing with swords would be!
"Glitch City" almost hurts, like it's sucking the breath out of me. Every time something repeats or you hear those creepy strings, I can imagine walking around my own city, but engulfed in the Uncanny Valley...
Holy cow, there's singing? And holy cow, really really good singing! "Strong in the Real Way" is powerful, and I can really feel the sincerity of the female singer. The male singer is a bit nasally, but the piano and guitar really work so well that I can forget about that.
Around here I realized that the music was really getting good. I wish I could comment on every track!
"Synchronize/Sugilite" if a very interesting track indeed. The first half, "Synchronize" is a real funky beat that I could totally see beginning a cool club song. The higher synth begins to betray the atmosphere, the song starts to feel a bit foreboding. Of course, that's where "Sugilite" comes in to remind us that Heavy Synths means Danger. It's not even all the synths here though, the harsh drums and sporadic higher square really drives home the dread this track put forth, and it's quickly followed by the even more foreboding "Sugilite Returns", with harsher key changes and dirtier synths. This one really feels helpless, until...
YES! THAT PIANO! Oh my gosh I can't describe the feelings that went through me when I heard the first bit of piano on "Sugilite Returns". The piano feels like a symbol of fighting back, no matter how powerful your enemy is. This is short lived however, and the synths quickly drown out the piano. If feels hopeless, until you hear the piano play the motif from "Strong in the Real Way", and the track picks back up again! YES, GO FIGHT!
Okay, I should explain that at this point I didn't even really comprehend that this was a cartoon. I was listening to it like a long album! Even still, I could feel like I was rooting for the characters I didn't know existed. That's how good this soundtrack is! It paints such a vivid picture, and I want more! Okay, back to musing.
Not the strongest point in my humble opinion, but there's a short string of tracks from "Steven and the Stevens" to "Steven and the Crystal Gems" that I don't like. Maybe it's just that same male singer from before, but also the songs didn't really speak to me. Mostly the songs with the song cover that says Steven and the Stevens in yellow with a blue background and a song listing from 1 to 7? Yeah, those felt out of place here. Also, the ending to "Steven and the Crystal Gems" was a but... odd? "I learned to stay true to myself, by watching myself die."
Aww here we go, "Monster Buddies"! Right off the bat, we start off with a motif we heard before in "The Mother", but it's quickly changed from foreboding to quaint and subdued, like a little diner. It looks like there's a picture of similar monsters on both songs, but this versing is cute and small.
In case you don't know, on Soundcloud you can see about how many people have listened to each song. It follow pretty predictable trends, with the most listened to songs usually being songs with singers, and the first few songs on the soundtrack. The better songs also usually get higher listens. If that's so, why the HECK does "Fight, Flight or Love" only have around 190K listens? Are you kidding me? This song is honestly my unequivocal favorite so far, and that's mostly because of the picture it paints in my head. First, we have this foreboding opening with some atmospheric synths. This is quickly developed with some synths and drums. This is bad, as Heavy Synths mean Danger. The situation continuously get more and more dire throughout the track, until about a minute thirty where we have a brief clear moment. Seems we've met the eye of the storm, since after this clears up, we're met with some strings that introduce us to an intense drum beat ending on a suspended chord. After that, a short run of the "We Are The Crystal Gems" motif that we'll hear later. What an amazingly expressive song, leading to it being deemed my favorite!
In "Mirror Gem", we hear the piano take on a distinctly new role, and a role I don't think any song in the whole soundtrack has taken thus far: pure sadness. Boy does it accomplish that.
"Let Me Out", from the same picture group, is very different, and also quite unique in the soundtrack with the sheer boldness of its tone. In and around this track you start to hear a lot of choir, which perfectly suits it. Something new is happening, something probably bad, and the music is not subtle about it in the least. That is, until the very ending where we hear a much more inviting if not still slightly sad anthem. I wonder what that's about. This picture trio is rounded out with "I Am Lapis Lazuli", a song I don't know how to feel about. It changes so quickly, it feels like this must be a very climactic place.
"Mirror Match" is also up there with "Fight, Flight or Love" for me, and it seems to be getting more love as well. This song is interesting in the way that it seems to tell a progressing story. You always hear that drumbeat, but over top of it you hear a variety of instruments ranging in tone that change in a very natural way. We hear that piano again! This is where I really started to get curious about the show, I mean what could possibly be happening on screen with this craziness? All these instrument changes, all these moods!
"Lapis' Tower" is a nice calm down from the previous madness, and it ends with a motif we've been hearing a lot lately, from "Mirror Gem" and "I am Lapis Lazuli", but now in a major key! That's some nice resolution.
This past lot has been great, and what a way to end this group with "Love Like You" AKA "The Ocean Returns". So soothing.
I've got to talk about "Almost There", as the whole song feels so well put together, and I couldn't image how this goes with the pictures on screen. Firstly, the buildup throughout the song constantly gets more grandios, more epic, but also more frantic, and by about a minute in, more dire. Those Heavy Synths should've tipped me off! Then the Soft piano hits, and I can only imagine how heartfelt this moment must be. Trust me, I imagined it.
The next time we hear singing is in "Be Wherever You Are". And you know what? This singer isn't bad here. I'm not sure if he just grew on me or not, but I could swear his voice is better here. Maybe it just goes well with the ukulele/violin going on in this song. It's so reminiscent of a nice, soothing afternoon in the sun. Am I crazy or is this soundtrack just super vivid!
Holy Cow, that's a lot of Heavy Synth in "Snerson Interrogation". Some intense stuff is going on when they play this track... I again kinda want to watch the show just to see what is happening to deserve such heavy music!
There's another playlist on Aivi and Surasshu's Soundcloud called FUSION MIXTAPE, and "Alexandrite" is one of the track on it. I'm not really sure why though, I had assumed that it was just some sort of "best hits" type album, but it doesn't even have a lot of the vocal songs in it! And no offense if you like it, but "Alexandrite" is... odd!
"Peridot" is a real atmospheric track that makes use of a different kind of wave than the Bad Heavy Synths, but still manages to give off a creepy vibe. It's also a motif we hear later, so it must be important!
The next one is on the FUSION MIXTAPE, as one of the only songs on the main soundtrack over 1 million views, definitely deserves some "best hit" status. It's short but oh so sweet, like a lot of the stuff on this soundtrack.
I don't know what to say about "Be Cool at the Club". It's just awesome, and has some great chiptune arpeggios. I love me some chiptune arpeggios!
"Death Rag" has me confused by its title at first. It's so upbeat, what could it have to do with that awful title, I thought? Even the key change halfway through is cheesy, not scary or death-ly. Then the ending hits. Oh my...
Again, I like the guy singing in "On the Run" a lot more now than before. There's a different girl singing here, and is it just me, or are these lyrics a little... sad? I feel like the guy is really into it, like a catchy showtune! The girl feels a little more detached, like there's some deeper meaning to the lyrics. "But home's a place that I have never known"... Is she okay?
Whoa, "Defective" came out of nowhere. Actually, both it and "Moonlit Battlefield" feel similarly and oddly dark. What's going on soundtrack, are you feeling okay lately?
I take it all back, "I'm Still Here" is next, and I totally get it. This track makes me feel things, things I didn't know I could feel. I can tell that, even through it's sadder, this is That piano, the jazzy piano we've been hearing all along, the one that picks up when all the chips are down.
"Wailing Stone" and "Lapis Lazuli" are two songs with the same melody but different lyrics. They're pretty okay songs, but I'm just impressed they could make two sets of lyrics for it when I can't write one set of lyrics to go along with a song.
"Stronger Than You", clearly either the most well known song on the soundtrack, the most liked song on the soundtrack, or both. I mean come on, 4.5 Million listens? Not that I'm complaining, it's sung by freaking Estelle! Why don't any other songs on here have such high-profile singers on them! Killer builds, smooth synths, great singing, awesome track. Also the lyrics are cool, they sound like an interesting ballad about the power of love, and the climatic nature leads me to believe that love plays a role in beating some huge opponent.
Not that the power-ballad induced win lasts long for our heroes, as "Collusion" comes in to remind us not to trust Heavy Synths! Another possible link that I thought the FUSION MIXTAPE may be held together is the fact that a lot of the pictures show characters dancing, including this one, so maybe they're all dance songs. That still doesn't explain "Alexandrite", and this song also doesn't sound very dance-y despite the picture. How are they dancing to this?
"Malachite" - Now that's a scary song. Definitely a dangerous enemy comes along with this song, and given picture that I see to my right in comparison to the one accompanying this song, an enemy you will all be seeing again May 12th? Good luck with that one...
"Full Disclosure" is, again, a pretty good song for this singer. It seems that it's a bit out of range for him though, probably should have brought it up a few steps? Catchy though.
Oh my gosh that same singer from "Strong in the Real Way" is back and is still amazing! This time, it's a duet with another singer. The song is great, but the lyrics really intrigue me. What is the deal here, there's discussion of dying for someone in war, and confusingly gendered pronouns? I kinda want to know more!
All right next to each other, we're getting so many songs with lyrics! "What Can I Do" is a great song too, really sells this hair rock image. Again though, these lyrics. Why does the the lady refer to whomever the song is about as human man and why does she say that she likes the way human beings play? Wait, what does she mean by ...play... OH WELL ROCK ON WITH THE SOLO!
Right back to Malachite in "We Are Malachite". Again, all I can say is good luck on the twelfth.
What did I say about this female singer! In "Tower Of Mistakes", she sounds even more depressed than in "On the Run", and here it is very explicit through the lyrics. "I see a Tower build out of my Mistakes, and it all comes crashing down..." Ouch, do you need to talk or something?
"We Are The Crystal Gems" is such a dandy little tune. It's also probably my best insight into the show without watching it, so I'll listen closely! All our main our here, the main dude (Steven), beautiful-voice lady from "Strong in the Real Way" and "Do It For Her", depressed lady from "On the Run" and "Tower of Mistakes", and Estelle is back!
"Theme from An Endless Romance" sounds just as the title suggests - a very romantic theme that I could see being played back at prom near the edge of midnight. Such vivid pictures these songs paint!
All I could think while listening to "Uncle Like You" was "Hey, you mind pitching that high synth up another 3 octaves?"
The singer of "Haven't You Noticed (I'm A Star)" is arguably more beautiful than that of "Strong in the Real Way", though the song isn't really my jam. I could understand you liking it though!
"Little Peridot" does to "Peridot" what "Monster Buddies" did to "The Mother", that is to say it's a great track that takes an old creepy motif and somehow makes it adorable.
"Robolympics" is just a straight up great song title, and the song really fits that technological, competitive, but friendly competitive atmosphere.
Ah, "Blue Diamond" is so calming. Such a mellow synth atmosphere, like the song wants me to sleep, but in a good way.
"Something Entirely New" is just so good. I don't even know who's singing and I can already tell so much about their characters, their relationships, and just aah that humming at the end it gets me every time. Two characters that complement each other so well, and what an ending chord!
Ah, "Yellow Diamond" is so calming. Such a mellow sy... What the? What's happening? It's like "Blue Diamond" on drugs! And it just keeps getting worse throughout, even when you think it can't get any weirder and more disjointed...
It seems we've reached the end of the soundtrack, and what an ending... I hope our heroes are okay!
Part 3: Steven Universe and me, and you!
As I've eluded to in Part 2, a lot of the songs in this soundtrack, especially a lot of the lyrical songs, have made me interested in watching Steven Universe. Now, I realize that going to a subreddit entitled "Steven Universe" to ask whether or not I should watch Steven Universe may be inquiring of the choir, but look at it from my perspective. I haven't watched TV in a long time, let alone cartoons. Even if the soundtrack is great, a cartoon may not pique my interest as much. So here's my question, does this show hold the same nuance as its music? I can listen to this music and analyse the many subtleties for hours, is the show like that? If it's just a straight forward show, I'm perfectly happy experiencing the story though the music. I'm absolutely not doubting that the show is "good", but there are plenty of "good" shows that I just can't get into, mostly because they have plots that I could see coming from a mile away and nothing to analyze. These are worlds I just can't get lost in. So, does it sound like even an old guy like me could enjoy this show? Thanks for your responses in advance! I FIXED EGREGIOUS GRAMMAR ERRORS, AND BUTT ERRORS
Hey guys, just coming along to add to my first, second and third posts here! I just now realized at this rate that list is going to get pretty long by the end of this course so I might not always link all of my posts together, hmmm. Well guys, When I first started out I figured this was going to be a one time thing. I just wanted to make good on a bet I made with a friend. I honestly never expected this show to be...well...it isn't the best show I've seen (so far) but from what I've seen its definitely worth continuing to watch and enjoy. I also didn't expect this level of warm welcoming from this community (no offense). A lot of fandoms, especially ones from animated shows, tend to have unpleasant sides to them but I really haven't seen that here! Quick shout out to W4RD06 for being the crafty jerk who got me to do this. I'M WATCHING IT, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?! So again, let's begin: Lars and the Cool Kids:"Steven's here! Nice throw, Garnet. Nice catch, Pearl.
"She saw the beauty in everything, no matter how gross." Rose sounds like a pretty swell person...gem...person.
Wait, did Pearl just generate a roll of police tape from her gem...like some sort of 3D printer? Or maybe she can store stuff inside it like her spear?
"Humans will just see this and walk away." Oh Pearl, how little you know of us.
An episode about Beach city's teenagers? This should be interesting.
Haha, what kind of name is Sour Cream?
Poor Lars, kid seems really socially anxious.
"I have no idea where any of my clothes come from." Ah, to be a kid again, and so blissfully unaware of how the world works.
"Hey man, there's nothing lame about seatbelt safety!" Smart teenagers?! What kind of topsy turvy world is this!?
So the mayor is Buck's dad? Good to know. "The lack of daddy kisses in my life made me who I am." Hey Buck, you should totally write a rap album about how your parents never loved you, that totally hasn't been done before, right?
"I'm above the law!" You know how I said these kids were smart? Yeah...
"What do you know about my mom?! I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO KNOW MY MOM!" OOF, WHAT IS THIS FEELING?! IS THIS THE FEELS YOU GUYS TALKED ABOUT? MAKE THEM STOP.
Dayum Steven, that was intense. I actually recoiled a bit when he yelled because it was so out of character for him. There are truly few things scarier than the anger of a gentle person.
"Steven?" "What?" "THIS SUCKS" Bwahaha...I actually expected Lars to apologize but I guess some people are just jerks by nature.
"I think I died. Errr...I mean...did he? That moss could have probably suffocated him by the time they got onto the hill.
Once again, just lovely uses of pinks and oranges and color in general in this show, love it!
That was cool. We got a little inkling about Rose, we got introduced to a few new characters, and we got to see a totally different side of Steven for a moment! Also the teenagers...Sour Cream seems like the sort of guy I'd try to make friends with IRL. Onion Trade:"What's that I hear? You can't find your little men in that super junky room of yours?" Pearl confirmed for being group mom.
"I lost something...something precious." Gasp "You're innocence?" You know I thought Greg was kinda like the deadbeat type when I first saw him but he's quickly rising through the dad ranks in my head. Keep it up, Greg!
Dave Guy comes with taxes? He really is the worst guy.
So this Onion character...he's a strange one. Doesn't speak any discernible language and throws cheeseburgers in the ocean.
A magic replicator wand...I feel like a broken record but...this won't end well.
Hey guys look, its raining little men! Can I get a little hallelujah?! I'll be here all week.
"Why didn't you just replicate Ranger Guy?" Yeah well, hindsight's 20/20, Pearl.
"Try and act like a rich duck." Haha, was that a Duck Tales reference?!
OH SHIT, CARVALANCHE.
"Now we have new memories. Horrible, horrible memories." I have a feeling they're only going to get worse as time goes on, Steven.
Not much to say about that one other than Onion is one weird little kid...and possibly the spawn of evil. Steven the Swordfighter: Haha, Steven watches the animes!
"Just look at their form! This is nothing like REAL swordfighting!" Oh Pearl, such a nerd.
"I'm gonna be just fi--POOF"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH
"Sometimes if our bodies are badly damaged we release our physical form and retreat to our gems to regenerate." Phew! You had me goin there for a minute, show! So Gems are kinda like the Doctor as far as regeneration goes...I guess. I wonder if Pearl will look different when she comes back...if she comes back.
Nice cloud, Amethyst...got yourself a regular nimbus there.
Huh, I kinda expected the hologram to poof when Pearl did...but apparently that's not how it works.
Haha, Steven's toys look like homages to pokemon, sonic and...Cloud from Final Fantasy?
Amethyst confirmed for best gem balloon.
DID HOLO PEARL JUST CUT A TREE IN HALF WITH A BALLOON SWORD?! Explain that one, physics!
Note to self: Walruses dont make good shields
Sokka voice AWWWW, BOOMERAAAAAANG!
Steven used mop boomerang! It was super effective!
WOOO, PEARL'S BACK.
"I got hit by a airplane!" What is it with Amethyst and airplanes?
HAPPY ENDINGS, YAY. A bit of new lore about gems, always nice. Moving on! Lion 2 the Movie: That may have possibly been the greatest trailer for a fake movie I've ever seen.
Connie's back! Good to see this show likes to re use characters!
"I just hope it stays faithful to the book." Said every fan ever right before they were severely disappointed.
"YOU HAVE A PET LION?!" I love how so far Connie is the only one that thinks this is strange.
Holy crap, Lion can run on water! HOLY CRAP, LION CAN USE PORTALS!
And he took them to the...errrr...batcave?
"I guess we'll have to chop it off." Suddenly swords My eyes got pretty big for a moment, haha they wouldn't chop Steven's hand off right guys?...Guys?
Whaaaat...its some kind of gem armory?
A...giant...penny?
"I wanna see lots of explosions." Great timing there, Steven.
ATTACK OF THE GIANT TIKI HEAD.
"I don't know why you hang out with me!" Awww Connie, don't beat yourself up.
I've heard of the sword in the stone...but the sword in the lion?
Its really...pink. Was that sword Rose's? GASP IS THE LION ROSE'S TOO?!
Connie and Steven using a sword together? I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP.
Haha, the MGM spoof at that end with Lion in the iris fade.
MORE LITTLE BITS OF PLOT...ARRRRGH, I MUST PUT THIS PUZZLE TOGETHER. Beach Party:"That's okay, here comes Garnet!" I feel like this probably gets said whenever the Crystal Gems get into a fight.
"Are we engaged in a secret staring contest?!" Even if you were, Garnet would probably win...triclops, brah.
Banned from the pizza store!? THAT'S MY WORST NIGHTMARE.
"Heh...mysterious." Come to think of it, Garnet is pretty reserved and mysterious. I wonder if she's hiding something.
"We inhabit the inner sanctums. Only accessible through magical extradimensional doors." Okay Garnet, no need to ham it up for everyone.
"Well the temple has been here for thousands of years." Whooooooooa. Thousands? I have seriously underestimated this show's timeline.
Hehe...the gems playing volleyball. Also, that grandmother character is precious.
HOLY CRAP, Garnet's spike GLASSED the court. She tryin to kill someone?!
PUFFERFISH IS BACK.
"I'm not afraid of that thing!" Damn! GO NANAFEWA!
"DONT WORRY, HERE COMES GARNET!" What did I tell ya?
WOOO, TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK, GUYS.
Its nice to see side characters getting their own episodes. Usually a lot of shows just treat them like extras but this one treats everyone like people! Rose's Room: Ewww? Who likes cream corn enough to eat four cans of it? Steven, apparently.
Whoawhoawhoawhoawhoa...Does Steven have an N64?! Man that takes me back!
What the heck's a wailing stone for? Hey look! I was right about the pink light on the room being Steven's room...although I guess technically its Rose's Room...that would explain the title.
ITS. SO. PINK.
So the room makes whatever Steven wants...hmmm...how could this go wrong?
TINY FLOATING WHALE...EEEEEEEE
Everything's made of clouds!
Welp...something is definitely going on...everything suddenly became creepy and weird.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat happened to Beach City, guys?
OH...OOOOOOOOHHHH, HE'S STILL IN THE ROOM ISN'T HE?!
Errr...maybe not. Greg seems to be alright.
NO, I WAS WRONG, MATRIX.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING.
"What DO you want, Steven?" Whoa...whose voice was that?
Haha...Garnet wore the pants!
That was fun...if a bit creepy...okay a lot creepy. Coach Steven: Hmmm...a gem communication hub. Y'know all these places seem very ruinesque...makes me wonder what kind of society gems had one Earth before...whatever happened to them happened.
Amethyst seems much too excited about this for it to be a good thing.
Amethyst and Steven screaming excitedly together is the best thing, haha.
Covers Steven's eyes. Mommy Pearl strikes again!
HOLY SUGILITE, THAT'S AWESOME. Also that voice actor sounds pretty familiar, where have I heard it before?
That gauntlet whip wrecking ball thing is the coolest weapon I've seen on this show yet. I thought Opal was cool but Sugilite is definitely more awesome in the raw power department.
Pffft...Steven's tiny little scratch.
"I've been slacking on my workout routine for a few weeks...months...years...decades. You and me both, Greg.
Hmmm Pearl seems to have some problems with Sugilite...guess she's just not into the reckless gimmick.
DAT SONG. I CAN SHOW YOU HOW TO BE STRONG...IN THE REAL WAAAAAY.
GASP ITS A DUET...kinda...still pretty cool.
Haha, Steven overdid it on the workout...I've been there, not fun.
OH SHIT, SUGILITE'S BACK AND SHE AINT HAPPY.
"You've been fused for too long! You're losing yourselves!" Oh shit. Have Amethyst and Garnet lost control of the fusion?
C'mon Pearl, you got this!
YEAH, TAKE YOUR OWN WRECKING BALL TO THE FACE, SUGILITE.
Hehe...Go Pearl! DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY!
Well that was all pretty great, guys! We got some new characters, we got a bit more plot AND we got an awesome new fusion! I just realized that fusion is probably going to be central to the show's plot at some point eh? Seems like it anyway. I'M SO EXCITED, TOMORROW I POST THE AREA OF THE SHOW YOU GUYS KEEP TELLING ME IS WHERE THE PLOT STARTS TO PICK UP. SEE YOU THEN.
Does having the fusions all be voiced by famous or busy musicians really limit what can be done with them?
I love the fusions, but I also find how they are implemented in the show very frustrating. I would say the only fusions besides the almost entirely human Stevonnie, we have really gotten to know on a personal level are Sardonyx and Smokey Quartz, who are both far more recently introduced fusions then say, Opal or Sugilite. Wouldn't it have been better to record all the fusions lines that they could possibly need for an episode while they still have their actress in the studio? I just find it frustrating that Opal hasn't spoken another line in the show in about four years now. I hopal for more Opal and I know you do too. My two favourite fusions are Sardonyx for her personality and charm and overall design (even if I would tweak it personally, have StageMom's tuxedo coattails extend into a full Vegas showgirl skirt, and make her hairdo a big Judy Jetson meets Marge Simpson beehive instead of what Peridot has) and Opal because she was the first fusion we met, looks just like Nabooru from Ocarina of Time and is pure elegance. But I'm just annoyed that its been almost five years since she was introduced, half a decade, yet... nno Opal episode. She hasn't spoken again. I want to have an episode where Steven, Opal and Garnet all team up. Or an episode where Opal plays with Steven (perhaps Pearl and Amethyst fuse so Opal can have a chance to interact with Steven). We have been told that Opal is very absent minded, and I want to see how her forgetfulness would come up in battle or interacting with Garnet and Steven or Beach City residents. Maybe we could have an episode where the fusions decide they want to explore Beach City, so the Crystal Gems take turns performing them, and the fusions interact with each other through delayed speech: we find out each fusions individual tastes and quirks: Opal is forgetful, Sardonyx loves the limelight but has a very short attention span and doesn't seem to be aware when she is boring or startling people, Sugilite wants to smash things and look fierce, Alexandrite is just incredibly socially awkward and if there's something she doesn't like, she lets you know. Maybe the fusions could go swimming, and each one of them times themselves in a competition Sardonyx creates when she is the active fusion. There may be a lot of Giant Women in the show, but Opal was the first. She was THE Giant Woman. Yet she only has made a handful of cameos, and she only appeared in the climax of her debut episode. Sugilite appeared much more in her debut then Opal. I just feel like casting big names with characters the fans will want to see again, like Bismuth, the fusions especially Sugilite and Saronyx, really limits how much the characters can be brought back, because of the actress's schedules and salary. Imagine if Pearl was a fusion or a Homeworld Gem, and Dee Dee Magno was the household name she deserves to be... wouldn't you be sad to see Pearl only make a handful of brief cameos over the series and only sing and speak in one? Can we please just give Uzo Adouba a regular job on the show? I don't really care for Bismuth's design as well. I would say out of all the Gems we've seen she's far and away the least human looking, and the only thing I liked about her design was the colour scheme and her delightful rainbow dreads. Everything else looked more like a gorilla then any humanoid character we've seen so far, and bar Sapphire with her big central eye (which just looks creepy most of the time so I'm glad her hair is down most of the time) and Centipeedle (who is a corruption) Bismuth manages to look even more hulking and inhuman then Jasper does. I also found the decision to use a Bismuth as her gem type very confusing.... when I saw her bubble back in Lion, I thought the fact that her gem was a bismuth (which are not gems but actually a crystalline metal compound, and are never considered gem stones the way not technically gemstones like lapis lazuli and pearls are, also bismuths are often artificially grown. I gotta be honest, I was expecting Bismuth to be an early attempt at creating a new form of life by Rose to combine the best of Gem and human biology, maybe a prototype Steven or perhaps someone to be an elder or younger brother or sister for him? I was like, oh the bismuth didnt end up being significant shes just a very interesting individual gem.
Sugilite . Shop for Sugilite. Introduction to the Meaning and Uses of Sugilite. A most beautiful and powerful crystal of the Violet Ray energy, Sugilite is a premier “love stone for this age,” embodying the perfection of Divine love and the manifestation of this energy on the Earth plane. Wearing Sugilite jewelry is an excellent way to keep this stone on your body, but if you are unable to do this, get either a rough piece of this stone or a tumbled stone instead. This violet crystal has the ability to aid you to improve your health, and is highly protective. Overall it is one stone that is a must-have within your collection. Sugilite can be paired with the Blizzard Stone or Gabbro to help you ground yourself, as well as magnify the energy of the stone. When you combine it with hemimorphite, shattuckite, ajoite, yttrium fluorite, or quantum quattro, it will help you develop your channeling abilities. Sugilite can also contain yellowish or reddish blotches and light purple or white patches. The most desirable color is a uniform reddish-purple. However, gemstones with interesting or attractive patterns may also command high prices. Sugilite Clarity and Luster. Sugilite may have minor impurities or it may be mixed with chalcedony. Sugilite Uses. Many people use this stone for many different things, but one of the most common threads is that Sugilite is most used in situations when somebody is vulnerable. Because of the shield it provides and the manner in which it can help users ward off negative energies, it is often best used when the user is about to go to sleep or As treasured as the pink material is, and it's great for its introduction of a heart element to the stone, Sugilite is (first and foremost) a purple experience. And yet it's color - Purple - is not the beginning, middle, and end of what Sugilite is all about. It has to do with so much more than its color. Not all stones are like this. What does this green stone do? It has a number of excellent metaphysical properties including: When someone picks up one of these unusual crystals, the most common reaction that most people feel first is a tingling in the hand, which spreads out into the body. Sugilite is the stone that really started my avid interest in minerals and crystals, in 2015. I had picked up a few little stones here and there before this over the years, but then I got just a couple of small tumbled sugilite stones. I had heard that they were good for dreams, and thought, well… couldn’t hurt. Impure Sugilite: Sugilite often occurs in rocks composed of many minerals. These cabochons are a combination of sugilite, chalcedony, and other minerals. Impure sugilite can make attractive cabochons that should sell for prices much lower than solid sugilite - unless they have a color and appearance that merits the price, which these cabochons do not have. Sugilite Uses. Sugilite does not have any prominent industrial uses. As it is not very hard, it tends to break easily, which limits its potential for practical purposes. Its bold color and rareness also make it a unique and beautiful gem which is best kept for aesthetic reasons. As such, its main use is in jewelry and in stone carvings.
